Your dear old Uncle Flip has decided he might do something with this site again. The question is, what will I do with it? That remains to be seen…

Showing off their cans…

It’s something a lot of people in birmingham have been waiting for…  Today Good People Brewing Company is unveiling its first two can designs.  I can’t wait to see theese on store shelves!

Here today, gone mandala…

November 12th, 2010 by Uncle Flip

As some of you know, a group of Buddhist monks spent the last week constructing a sand mandala at the Alys Stevens Center.  The monks worked with just a few grains of sand at a time to create the intricate design.  And this afternoon they needed just a few minutes to destroy it.  the destruction is symbolic of the impermanence of life.  (More pictures from the ceremony in a later edit of this post.)

Barons head home…

November 4th, 2010 by Uncle Flip

It was announced tonight that the Birmingham Barons will actually be moving to…. Birmingham.  I can’t wait for this move.  I’m not what you would call a rabid baseball fan, but I do enjoy going to games- and it’ll be nice to have them closer to home.  Hoover played hardball to keep the Barons, but a new move to build up the downtown area won out.  It will be interesting to see where Birmingham’s new endeavor takes it, but the city’ efforts to improve downtown have so far been a very positive effort, to me.  I can’t wait for the first pitch.

Update: Mayor Bell says he’s excited about the Barons coming back, but the deal isn’t 100% done.

This is just a test of remote posting.

Sorry to have this as the only post for October, but I’ve been out of town a lot lately- and I also haven’t been inspired to write. It’s not that there isn’t much going on in Birmingham, there is.  But for now this note will have to suffice.  It’s not even really a note- it’s actually a test of my phone’s voice recognition, and my newfound ability to post to the website from the phone. If all goes well, hopefully this will actually make me post more.  Oh, and the attached photo isn’t really relevant to anything, it’s just a test, too.
